Our story
What began as a personal fascination with the remarkable variety of flavours found across China has grown into a curated, interactive atlas. Every pin on the map represents a dish with a story — its origin, the people who cook it, the ingredients that make it distinctive, and the role it plays in daily life. We believe that food is one of the most honest windows into a culture, and that a single bowl of noodles can reveal more about a region than any guidebook.
What you will find here
Our interactive map brings together 141 iconic dishes from 24 provinces and regions, each accompanied by a thoughtful narrative and a taste profile. Whether you are a curious traveller, a devoted home cook, or a researcher exploring Chinese food culture, the atlas is designed to welcome you.
- Detailed stories and historical context for every dish
- Taste profile radar charts (spice, salt, sweet, sour, umami)
- High-resolution photography of each dish
- A free tier of five signature dishes, available to everyone
- An optional subscription that unlocks the full collection
A note on authenticity
We take care to research each dish with respect for the regions that gave rise to it. Where local tradition offers several interpretations, we present the most widely recognised version while acknowledging regional variation. Our work is continually refined, and we are grateful to readers who write in with corrections, additions, and personal stories.
